“We must find time to stop and thank the people who make a difference in our lives.” ― John F. Kennedy
"Piglet noticed that even though he had a Very Small Heart, it could hold a rather large amount of Gratitude." ― A.A. Milne, 'Winnie-the-Pooh'
This week is Thanksgiving. It is a time when we stop, reflect, and celebrate the life we have.
Lately, I have been reflecting on the people who have shaped me the most. I am becoming more aware that I am less 'original' and more 'imitation'—a reflection of the phenomenal men and women who have encouraged me along the way. I am grateful for them.
Mark Twain said, "I can live for two months on a good compliment." I cannot think of a better compliment than to know you have influenced someone's life for the better. I am always humbled when I receive a call, a text, or an email from someone sharing how something I've said or written has impacted their life. That feeling never gets old.
I want to challenge you. I want you to think of the people who have influenced you. The people who have helped you become you. You are who you are because of the investment of others. Who are these 'others?'
Write down their names, and whether they are close by, far away, or in heaven, I want you to imagine how grateful they would be to know how you feel about them right now. Over the next few days, reach out. Write them a note. Find time to call. Send up a prayer. Whatever the medium, let them know how much you appreciate them and how grateful you are for their impact on your life.
"I am grateful for what I am and have. My thanksgiving is perpetual." — Henry David Thoreau
And please know I am thankful for you. I don’t say it enough, so I am saying it now: 'Thank you for investing in me.' Thank you for reading what I write and for being a part of my life. May the good trouble never end.
Grateful,
— Harp
